6 attached houses and common facilities (library, communal deck, vegetable gardens and informal gathering spaces) for Kapitbahayan, a Filipino housing cooperative serving their community in Western Sydney for 13 years. The new housing was designed by Hugo Moline of MAPA in close collaboration with the members and tenants. The design utilises the Affordable Housing SEPP to achieve substantial development gains. Kapitbahayan (meaning neighbourhood in Tagalog) is an alternative, community-driven model of housing design and management. The design harnesses the knowledge and passion of Sydney's immigrant communities to create a housing model to combat unaffordability, sprawl, social isolation and housing obesity.
