Marrickville, Sydney, Australia
In the making of this work we were interested in mapping and orienteering as a way to engage with the girl guides who used this hall. We worked with the Marrickville girl guides to create personalised and idiosyncratic maps of the park, describing significant places within the park and also the gathering points of people and activity in the park.
The result is a facade work across the surface of the building with the white lines representing the contour lines and main features in McNeilly Park and the stainless fixtures represent the historic features of this place including the creeks that used to be here and the old swimming pool. The brass fixtures represent the significant gathering points in the park.
This project was initiated by Marrickville City Council as a way to prevent grafitti on this community facility.
