Halvorsen Park, Ermington

Huge mysterious Nissen huts once stood in this spot on the Parramatta river, storing objects, machines and tools which the navy used in the nearby bases. With this place becoming a public park in 2015, the brief from the City of Parramatta and Defence Housing Australlia was to interpret this story through public art.
We aimed to open up this story and place for play & curiosity. We unfolded the stores, reorganised shapes and semaphore language, discovered the objects that were stored inside and drew connections to the routes travelled on by water.
Thanks to our incredible welder Ross and Defence Housing Australia and City of Parramatta for our commissioning our second permanent public artwork. MAPA managed this project from concept through to fabrication and installation.
This work was commissioned by the City of Parramatta and Defence Housing Australia.
